CLEAN EARTH: OFFICE: Office Machines

Energy efficient office machines not only cut the cost and carbon emissions associated with their own operation but, through producing less heat.

They can reduce emissions from air conditioning by as much as 30 percent. Most energy in photocopiers and printers is used to heat the components that fuse the toner to paper, so a machine that powers down rather than keeping those components hot while idle can slash energy use.

Ensure your procurement policy favors Energy Star- compliant and enabled equipment. Choose models that allow double-sided printing and copying, since ultimately the greatest source of carbon emissions from office machines is the embedded energy of consumables like paper and ink.
