NOVEMBER CLEAN EARTH TIP: Better Suited!

Business attire, particularly the traditional businessman’s uniform of long-sleeved shirt, tie, and jacket, is ill-suited to the warmer regions, and to summer weather across much of the country.

A formal business dress code for employees requires cranking up air conditioners to maintain comfortable conditions not only in your own workplace but in shops and food outlets as well. Start with casual Friday, and then adopt a policy that permits climate-appropriate clothing--short sleeved open-necked shirts, for instance--so your office thermostat can be set to a slightly higher temperature. Every degree you save will cut up to 20 percent from air conditioning costs. Provide closed space where staff can keep more formal attire for the occasions when it’s necessary.
