CLEAN EARTH: Computers are..Environmentally Damaging!

Computers are, on a weight for weight basis more environmentally damaging to produce the cares.

Research by the UN University in Tokyo indicates manufacturing of a standard desktop computer 17-inch CRT monitor requires a total of two tons of materials, including at least 528 pounds of fossil fuels, 48 pounds of chemicals, and nearly 400 gallons of water. A good place to start when choosing machines is the Green Electronic Council’s Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, which rates computer companies on their material use and end -of-life-take-back policies. Minimize the need to replace computers so often by choosing models whose life can be extended through upgrades and repair.
